Synopsis
Enid Pinxit, a reclusive artist whose haunting portraits sell for millions, lives in a crumbling studio above the city. When a blank canvas she never touched begins to depict her own childhood home in terrifying detail, Enid realizes the painting is remembering what she has spent decades forgetting. As figures from the canvas step into her life, she must race to finish the work before it finishes her. Each new layer reveals suppressed memories of her sister’s disappearance and her own complicity. Collectors, critics, and a mysterious gallerist descend, each wanting a piece of the magic, unaware it is devouring its creator. Enid’s only hope is to paint the final truth she has hidden even from herself.
The story
Enid discovers the self-painting canvas and experiences the first bleed of painted imagery into her daily life. Her dealer books a major retrospective, forcing her back into the spotlight she fled.
The paintings accelerate, conjuring real events and people from Enid’s suppressed memories. Allies become suspects as the canvas begins erasing her present; she isolates herself to finish the work before it erases her entirely.
Enid confronts the final image—her sister’s death—and chooses to paint the truth rather than destroy the canvas, freeing the past and collapsing the studio in a blaze of pigment and fire.

INT. ENID’S STUDIO — NIGHT Moonlight slices through skylights onto a vast blank canvas. ENID PINXIT (45, paint-streaked hands, hollow eyes) stands barefoot in an oversized shirt. She hasn’t touched this canvas. Yet a single crimson line appears, slow and deliberate, tracing the outline of a child’s face. ENID (whisper) I didn’t start that. She steps closer. Another stroke—wet, glistening—adds a door behind the child. The studio lights flicker. Enid grabs a palette knife, hesitates, then lowers it. The brush continues without her, painting tears on the child’s cheek that begin to drip onto the floor.

In an era obsessed with authenticity and terrified of what our own images might reveal, this story taps the collective anxiety that our creations—and our pasts—may already be painting us into corners we can’t escape.
