INT. ENID’S STUDIO — NIGHT Rain lashes the skylight. ENID PINXIT, 58, paint-smeared and sleepless, adds a final stroke to a towering canvas: a man in a red coat whose eyes seem to follow her. She steps back. The figure BLINKS. Enid freezes. From the canvas, a faint breath fogs the air. The painted man lifts one finger and presses it to the surface from inside, leaving a perfect handprint on the wet paint. Enid drops her brush. It clatters. The handprint slowly retracts. On the floor, the dropped brush begins to bleed fresh crimson across the boards.
