Synopsis
Struggling video essayist Marcus Vale posts a deliberately empty project titled 'They Can't All Be Winners,' expecting obscurity. Instead he deploys a hidden, hyper-sophisticated editing technique that forces viewers to project their own meaning, turning the zero-content clip into an overnight phenomenon. As fame arrives, Marcus discovers the trick is feeding on audience attention, bending events around him so that his invented narrative starts happening for real. Rivals, lovers, and critics become unwitting characters in the story he never wrote. When the technique threatens to erase Marcus himself, he must choose between letting the trick finish its masterpiece or destroying the only thing that ever made him matter.
The story
Marcus posts the empty video and activates the secret technique, watching it explode online while denying any trickery to his skeptical producer.
Success warps reality: people Marcus described in the video appear in his life, confrontations escalate as the trick feeds on more viewers, and Marcus realizes he can't turn it off.
Marcus stages a final public 'reveal' that weaponizes the audience against the technique itself, sacrificing his fame to break the loop and reclaim authorship of his own story.

INT. DIMLY LIT EDITING BAY - NIGHT MARCUS VALE, 38, unshaven, stares at a blank timeline. On the monitor: pure black for 4 minutes 22 seconds. He exhales, then drags a single invisible cut into the void. MARCUS (to himself) Zero story. Zero originality. Now watch them beg for meaning. He hits export. The file name reads: THEY_CANT_ALL_BE_WINNERS.mov. The progress bar fills. Outside, a notification chime starts, then multiplies like rain. Marcus leans back, smiling as the screen floods with comments that write themselves. MARCUS (whispers) Too sophisticated for any of you.
