Synopsis
In a dystopian blend of feudal Japan and cyberpunk excess, Afro Samurai hunts the immortal assassins who slaughtered his family, each wearing numbered headbands that grant godlike power. Haunted by his father's ghost and aided only by the wisecracking Ninja Ninja, Afro battles cyborg ronin, robotic geishas, and the sadistic Justice in a blood-soaked quest that forces him to confront the cycle of violence he was born into. As the final headband draws near, resurrection technology blurs the line between life and death, pushing Afro to decide if vengeance is worth becoming the very monster he fights.
The story
Orphaned Afro witnesses his father's beheading by Justice over the Number One headband; years later, the adult warrior begins his climb through the seven assassins, haunted by flashbacks and guided by the spectral voice of his dad.
Afro tears through escalating foes including cyborg gangs and seductive betrayers, losing allies and questioning his humanity while Justice taunts him from afar with stolen resurrection tech that could bring his father back.
In a rain-lashed final duel atop a collapsing megacity, Afro defeats Justice, claims the headband, and chooses to resurrect not his father but his own shattered innocence, breaking the cycle as the Number One title passes on.
