Synopsis
When a sudden equipment failure strands cartographer Marcus Hale on the Ross Ice Shelf, his five-person team radios they will return in 48 hours. They never come back. Months later Hale crawls into a Chilean research station, frostbitten and half-mad, clutching proof that the expedition was a cover to plant a black-site transmitter for a defense contractor. The world believes he died; his wife has remarried his best friend and collected his life insurance. Hale must cross a thawing continent and a web of lies to expose them before the ice claims the evidence and his mind. Each step south drags him deeper into memories of the night they voted to leave. The cold preserves everything except mercy. By the time he reaches McMurdo, Hale is no longer the man they abandoned; he is the storm they tried to outrun.
The story
Marcus joins the classified survey team after his wife urges him to take the high-paying job. Equipment fails during a routine traverse; the others vote to leave him with minimal supplies and a promise of rescue that never arrives.
Alone, Marcus discovers the mission was to bury a classified array whose exposure would bankrupt the contractor and ruin his teammates. He begins a brutal trek south while hallucinations of his wife and the vote erode his sanity.
Reaching civilization, Marcus leaks the data during a live press conference at McMurdo. The conspirators are arrested; his wife confronts him in the snow. He chooses exile over revenge, walking back onto the ice as rescue choppers arrive.

LENA (radio) We can't wait. Fuel's gone. We vote now. COLE Marcus, brother, you said yourself the beacon's strong. They'll pick you up in two days. Marcus looks up. His lamp catches four faces already turned away. MARCUS Lena. You said we'd finish this together. Lena's lamp clicks off. Footsteps crunch. The remaining lights recede into the blizzard. Marcus is left alone with the wind and the dark. He screams into the void. Only static answers.
